The year 2020 has spurred an increased awareness of airborne infection. As the COVID-19 pandemic sweeps the nation, claiming more than 200,000 lives, individuals and businesses are taking extra precautions to limit the spread of disease through the air.

However, long before the coronavirus, the Life Balance founders realized that public facilities—especially hospitals—could be doing more to monitor and test airflow to limit the spread of airborne pathogens.

Life Balance Technologies was founded by Corey Kilpack and Steven Manz, longtime friends who combined their backgrounds in auditing, modeling, and infection control to develop the Life Balance software.

Corey and Steve realized that many hospitals had not been meeting the standards to which they agreed regarding air balancing and testing. This is problematic in any public building, but particularly in healthcare facilities because of the risk of spreading infection between patients or between patients and staff.

While working in the HVAC industry, Corey took matters into his own hands and developed an infection control model that was accessible and helpful for both building engineers and hospital infection control officers. This model became the prototype for Life Balance’s SāfAir software, which offers a more simple, and ultimately more affordable, alternative to the current testing and balancing models. It is based on a design that is commonly viewed in any elevator lobby and does not require an engineering degree to understand.

While this system will address issues raised by the COVID-19 pandemic, the benefits are wide-reaching. Three years from now, every hospital in the country will go through an accreditation cycle and each facility will have to explain what they are doing to control infection. The Life Balance founders know that the current compliance processes are insufficient. The existing forms, reports and processes are not enough. We can do better and Life Balance is determined to be part of the solution.

Life Balance Technologies helps hospitals and other companies easily analyze air quality conditions and effectively manage their HVAC systems. By streamlining the process for compliance, auditing, and reporting, we help reduce costs and save lives.
