The world is still reeling from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, but although public health efforts have been centered around SARS-CoV-2 over the past year, there are many other dangerous airborne diseases currently threatening our health and well being.

Life Balance Technologies’ signature software, SāfAir, aims to reduce these threats by helping hospitals and other public facilities limit the spread of airborne pathogens within buildings.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in 31 hospital patients has at least one healthcare-associated infection on any given day. Hospital acquired infections occur when bacteria, viruses and other pathogens spread between patients, or between patients and staff, in a healthcare facility.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, many hospitals audited their indoor airflow and pressure as a “check the box” matter of routine and typically only inspected 15-20% of the facility. The new SāfAir software allows hospitals to analyze the infection control parameters of an entire facility, and it incorporates all of the mechanical and HVAC equipment as well as the required regulatory standards.

“It was not a priority previously because the chance of airborne disease seemed so remote,” said Steve Manz, co-founder of Life Balance Technologies. “It was a manual process to gather the data. The data was processed using handwritten notes and Excel spreadsheets. Facility-wide testing was time-consuming, costly and unmanageable.”

SāfAir can analyze results from 100% of a facility and provide reports faster, more accurately, and with less cost. This software will allow hospitals to track potential risks and reduce hospital-acquired infections, Manz said.

Life Balance has already integrated the software in four hospitals outside of Texas and is looking to onboard Houston-area healthcare facilities as soon as possible.

“The feedback we’re getting is that SāfAir is unique and there’s obviously a huge need for this—so keep going” Manz said. “Hospitals want safer facilities and they need to achieve this with tighter or limited budgets. We are helping them do more with less money. Life Balance Technology is providing a solution to issues that existed before COVID-19. These issues are now urgent for hospitals. More importantly, this is a solution to benefit the lives and safety of frontline workers and patrons.”

Life Balance Technologies helps hospitals and other companies easily analyze air quality conditions and effectively manage their HVAC systems. By streamlining the process for compliance, auditing, and reporting, we help reduce costs and save lives.
